Viewing referrer statistics

When viewing statistics, the Referrers report shows a list of referrers, as shown in figure 1. When a visitor finds your site by clicking a link on another site, the referrer is the address of the page with the link. Note that some unethical companies advertise their sites using a technique called referrer spoofing or referrer spamming, which involves requesting pages from a site whilst providing fake referrer information. As a result, some of the addresses listed may not be genuine referrers.

The list initially shows referrers for the current month. You can use the drop-down field to see the referrers for any month since your site went live.

For well-known sites such as search engines, the site name is displayed instead of its address. For search engines with country-specific versions, the different versions are listed separately. For example, is listed as Google Search, while is listed as Google Search (United Kingdom).

At the bottom of the list is a Download this report button. Click this button to download the report as a CSV file, which you can open in a spreadsheet application.
